Portugal Tuesday Addendum 2--Afternoon & Carnival One

Carnival in Carvoeiro

Carnival is celebrated in many countries just before Ash Wednesday on the Christian calendar.  Carnival in Carvoeiro is an amateur affair and has it's share of foibles but is always fun to watch.

We parked on the drive above the cliffs and walked about a kilometre along and down into the square at beach level.  The next photo shows the square just beginning to get busy.

This is part of the main square behind the beach.  Vehicles enter the town via the road on the left and exit to the right of the white van.  It is very compact.  Note the motorcycles.  Heavy duty dudes drinking beer and enjoying the ambience.  We have seen them elsewhere and they never cause any issues.  In fact they ended up being part of the parade.  Beer was flowing everywhere and not a drunk was to be seen.

This year's parade used a show theme and featured mostly adults.  None the less lots of children and adults were dressed up in the crowd.  These ladies were on there way to where the parade was being organized.
