Rob in the North

The following email was received from Rob last night. Also a picture.

I had a pretty interesting day. Some the Natives set up a road block into the reserve to protest something or other on the reserve. When we got to the entrance to the reserve they wouldn't let us through. The Quebec police were there and everything.
So a bunch of teachers began leaving, but then the protestors told us we had to stay and show support for the Natives. We couldn't go and we couldn't leave. They were using us as pawns. Then our vice principal showed up and got into a big argument with them. The principal was away. To make a long story short, after a protracted argument we parked our cars at the top of the big hill and walked across the line (about five of us) and down to work. It was very surreal crossing that line. Apparently most people supported us going across because they were taking our picture and video taping us. We were about an hour and a half late for school.
Another wild experience in the north!
I'll call you on the weekend.
Rob.
