Sunday we decided to go for a walk around 10:30 with no particular goal in mind. So we walked to the east end of the property and went through the controlled gate. I thought we might walk in to Hibiscus which is next door to Monte Santo. It is a property of about 30 houses that we can see the roofs of from our unit. It was literally a 200 foot walk down the street to the Hibiscus entrance but the gates were shut and only a big canvas sign out in front to announce its presence.

Apparently they are promoting 1-3 bedroom houses for rent in the high season?? I checked the internet and you have to go through a property management company. Cool picture of the Mato Serrao area. |
So we walked on to the entrance of Quinta de Paraiso. We have driven in Paraiso a few times but never walked it. M kept asking "where are we going," no doubt figuring that I was taking her into an abyss of some sort. This is a lovely area with no controlled entrance and in fact you can walk in the east end and come out about 2 kilometres to the west. It's not exactly a resort but it does have a reception, etc. Here is a picture of a typical house built about 40 years ago.

Small, simple and quite nice. Most of the houses in Paraiso are of this type. Built back when the Portuguese currency was a tiny fraction of the British pound. |
As we walked out the west end of Paraiso new houses are being built. I'm showing a photo of a house that was started in 2019 and it is still not finished. This is quite typical and I am not completely sure why.

This house is located just near Monte Santo. We saw the foundation being dug in 2019 and although it is virtually done the grounds are still not prepared. |
Our total walk was only 3 kilometres but being a little 'long in the tooth' is a good excuse for being tired after an hour on the hoof.
