Tornado

August 23rd saw a devastating storm demolish much of Goderich.  Goderich is where we have our boat and trailer.  Both survived the storm, but much of the main part of town did not.  I won't go into detail here because the story is easily available on line.  I took the picture of Rubicon below just 36 hours after the storm.  The floating docks had been shoved around by the wind, but damage was slight.  We had a cleat pulled out of the toerail because of the pressure on the dockline, but that was all.

Similarly our trailer (which is about 1500' away the destruction at the top of hill) was not touched.

One of many house destroyed on St. Patrick's St.  These were all
19th century houses; some 150 years old.

More to come--not finished

Oct 22--The town continues to recover.  The lovely United Church on Victoria St. has been completely pulled down, as has the Opera House.  Many smaller wartime houses on the east side of town are now being pushed down by dozers.  The foundations are being removed and a hole remains.  The event and the stories emanating out of its aftermath are numerous and much too complex to discuss here.
