Roman Ruins at Milreu Journal 25

Weather:  Finally the winds have subsided and we have a beautiful warm sunny day.

We decided to make the trip to the other side of Faro to the Roman ruins in the town of Estoi.   This is a small settlement about 10 miles from the ocean.  In fact it covers only about 2 acres.   As a comparison Conimbriga that lies about 150 miles to the north covers 30 plus acres with floors perfects after two millennia.  However, Milreu still gives the observer a good idea of how Roman life was lived.

Roman temple.  This clearly illustrates of use of typical and unique Roman mortar.  We have seen this a Trier in Germany with similar brick and the brown mortar.  This is mortar that has lasted two thousand years open to the elements.

Mosaics are always amazing

Not sure if this is heating area for baths??
