As in previous years we have had problems raising the genoa. There seems to be the problem.
There appears to be a hockle or permanent twist in the halyard wire just a few feet from the top of the mast when the wire is in the pulled down position necessary to fasten to the upper bearing. When we attempt to pull the sail up using just the wire the wire suddenly twists (the top of the bearing suddenly spins as the wire twists) and the wire quickly wraps around the furler starting from the top of the bearing. This makes hauling up impossible
The solution: As Mary very slowly pulls up the halyard I push the sail up the groove using my hands of each side of the sail. The secret is to keep the wire drooping with no tension on it. Mary is just taking up the slack with the primary raising being done by me pushing the sail up the groove. Once about half or more up she can apply tension and the spin twist doesn't happen.
The permanent solution is a new halyard (either internal or external).
