Portugal Sunday, March 19/23 (Lisbon)

Weather in Lisbon:  13C to high of 20c.  Clear

Yesterday we drove the 275 km from the Algarve and dropped the car off at the airport.  We took a taxi downtown to the Mundial Hotel.  It is a madhouse here on Saturday night.

Quiet this morning with little or no traffic.

Last night in front of the hotel

Dinner Last Night

We only walked across the square last night to a Lebanese restaurant.  Food was different but good.  Very friendly but very untrained staff who were fun.  They had hooka pipes sitting everywhere and to my surprise a fellow laid out his prayer rug on the patio and did his prayers to Allah.

Breakfast

Very nice breakfast restaurant with a great assortment of food.  We spent half an hour chatting with a couple from Boston who are moving to the Azores for six months of the year.  They are in Lisbon finalizing the paper work to relocate.

Walk

We walked all the way down to the harbour today and wow are we tired after three hours.  There is so much to see here and so many nationalities.  It's just one big mixture of people.  There are Tuk Tuk's everywhere trying to get your business and hawkers of every kind trying to sell you something.  But it's not offensive; just interesting.  There are also many Americans here.  We had lunch on Rua Augusta under the shade in the street and the people next to us were from San Diego.

Incidentally we had Pastel de Bachala for lunch.  Beautiful shop making what looks like an egg but it is bachala in an egg shape and deep fried.  Excellent.

Dinner

Found a very restaurant on the Rua da Augusta.  Unfortunately I had wine and had a very difficult time walking back to the hotel.  I guess the day's activities made me suseptible.  Kind of worrying.
