Portugal Monday, March 13/23

Weather:  13C and partly cloudy.  High of 19C today.  Current wind is 17 kmh and humidity is 81%.

Tides

We want to go to Marinha Beach today with the intention of walking down the many, many steps to get down the 150' cliff.  In 2020 we walked down only to find that the tide was 'in' and we couldn't access most of the beach.  The walk is very long but gradual.  You step down 8" and then walk 10' on a gentle slope and so on.  Eventually you reach a switch back of sorts and reverse 180 deg. on to wooden steps that take you to the beach.  It's an easy walk but takes about 10-12 minutes.

In the past we read the tide tables in the Portuguese Resident newspaper which seems to be out of print so we will use the phone.  Just type in 'tide times carvoeiro' and there they are for the next week.  Today low tide is at 11.52 am so any time from 10 am to 2 pm will be fine for beach walking.

We know from experience that the beach will be very hot.  Although it may be 18C at the top of the steps it will be 30C on the beach sand.

Now it's later and we are pooped!

We managed to get down in the predicted time but coming up was a different matter.  We stayed on the beach for about an hour and a half and began turning pink.  NO KIDDING.  During that time we had nine kayaks show up from Benegil (just down the coast a mile or so) and entertainment by various swimmer types.  We watched two Hungarian gals on a kayak come roaring in on the surf with their guide.  Mary talked to them and they had a great time.  They were supervised by a P guy for 30 euros each.  My video is quite poor but maybe I'll put in on.

Starting down

Maybe 20' vertically (ha, ha)

See those little people down there.  Yep, it's a long way down yet.
