Communications and connections and surprises
This is a subject of much confusion. Particularly among we older folk, but even more so when traveling is concerned. All of us can use an ordinary telephone but when it comes to: a mobile phone; email; Messenger; Facetime; Zoom and a myriad of other ways of staying connected we may be lost. Some know more than others about these technologies but even the best among us get confused once in a while.
Over the last weeks in Portugal we have been doing audio and video chats with our sons using either our smartphone or laptop computer. We have done this via the Messenger app on Facebook which is a simple ( yes, we do have to mess up a few times before we get on to it, but it doesn't cost anything and everyone screws up with these technologies) to use application (app) on Facebook. To use it all parties must be a Facebook subscriber which is free and no your life will not be negatively impacted. Once you are on Facebook the Messenger app is free to use.
So we can do a complete video conversation using our smartphone, Ipad, etc. from just about anywhere.
So much to our surprise we were in the car today several miles out of town and the car dash started ringing (the car picked up the call). "It's the phone Mary, pick it up". It's Rob calling from Canada and we engaged in a 10 minute video chat where we ended up driving around showing him the sights from the car. Amazing. It's via Messenger which I assume is connecting us via a cell phone signal. Frankly, I don't know and I don't care. It just works and there's no bill.
What a crazy world we live in!!!
