June was an interesting month. Rob was finishing up his first year in a new school and Mike was in Aberdeen, Scotland once again for a week. On the Thursday of that week a massive flood covered river valleys everywhere in southern Alberta. Mike lives about 500 feet from the Elbow River in Calgary and his entire area was flooded including the Calgary Stampede grounds; the Mission district; Foxboro and his own Erlton district. I'll cover the flood in another article.
Mike had planned on going to Switzerland for a holiday in his second week in Europe and coming home to Ontario in the third week. The flood almost changed his mind, but with his building surrounded by water and his friend Krista having rescued his car from the underground parking there was not much he could do anyway. So he decided to go to Switzerland via Nice, France. After a few days in Nice I talked to him on his cellphone as he whisked along in a high speed train at 300 kph (amazing). After spending time in the alps he flew to Toronto from Zurich. He stayed with Rob for a bit and then took the bus home where we picked him up. He stayed for one whole week before returning to Toronto with Rob and flying home to Calgary where things were still in a mess, but he was free to return to his condo which barely missed being flooded.
