Mooretown Bound

One of our favourite activities is visiting with Bill and Heather.  This time was no exception as we met at the library in downtown Sarnia where I took this picture with the young bronze lovers (or is it the two on the other end).  Heather had discovered Lola's and we were there to test the gastronomical fare.  Lola's (on Christina St. near the library) turned out to be a eclectic mix of psuedo victorian lamps and dancehall reflectors with a terrific menu that appears to be hand prepared (the food, not the menu).  The menu was limited to about twenty of Lola's entrees and the four we had were delicious.

After lunch we headed down river to their home in Mooretown which fronts on the St. Clair River.  Heather and Bill bought an old victorian house a few years ago and brought it back to life.  They stripped the house and then began with new windows, doors, wiring, plumbing and even replaced joists in the second floor.  Heather has done a fantastic job of decorating.  She has a flair for colour and mixing furnishing that looks great and results in a wonderfully comfortable home.  Bill and sons have built a great deck off the dining room that runs the whole length of the north side.  Instead of using the ususal decking approach he used wide pine boards covered with varnish with a victorian style railing.  Looks great and suits the house.  Out back Bill is slowly rebuilding the garage into a shop that will rival what he had in Arkona.

For the piece de resistance you can sit in either the living room, dining room or on the deck and watch the river traffic including 1000' freighters ply up and down one of the world's great waterways.  As as bonus you can grab the binoculars and see the Homeland Security boys as they roar up and down the river protecting the motherland across the river against all the Cannuck terrorists.
