Closing Up

No pictures, just work.  Today we spent the afternoon in Goderich closing up the trailer.  Although rain was predicted, the day turned out to be clear and cool.  Closing up isn't difficult but all of the food and other perishables must be removed and all paper taken home just in case a mouse slips in for the winter.  There is a good sized maple tree that peppers the trailer with leaves and fills the evestrough, so I have to clean it after the leaves are down.  Mary has been raking leaves for three weeks now.  Fortunately we can just heave them over the riverbank.  We remove the planters and flower boxes to the shed and haul the canoe off the steep river bank on to the picnic table.  The outside furniture is stored in the florida room and all of the bedding is stripped and stored.  Once everything has been removed or stored we winterize the plumbing lines with non-toxic antifreeze.  I drain the hot water heater and then pump the fluid through the plumbing with a simple garden sprayer with a hose bib on it.

I'm cheating.  This is a photo from Nov 1, 2010

After we finished we said goodbye to Stan and Gabrielle who have the trailer across from us.  They are great gardeners and have the most attractive trailer in the park.  They combine the most mundane objects with gorgeous flowers to decorate their yard. Passers by always stop to admire their place.
