Mike phoned from Calgary this afternoon to inform us that he has won the Canadian Society of Petroleum Geologists award for best Graduate Thesis in Canada for sedimentry/petroleum studies. As you may know Mike graduated from Western with a Master of Science degree. To fulfill the requirements all graduates must present their thesis to three professors and their peers. We attended that presentation and needless to say were extremely proud of how Mike handled himself. Shortly after that Mike started working for Talisman Energy in Calgary. In September his professor Dr. Plint suggested that he submit his thesis (which was printed and bound into book form by then) to the CSPG. His mom sent the book to the CSPG committee and we all forgot about it. Voila, a call yesterday announced that he had won. The prize is $2000 and a requirement to present a brief before the conference in May. Mike has been working for Talisman for nine months now and has just changed departments. Previously he was learning the ropes and lately was the geologist in charge of two new gas wells being drilled near Hinton. Now he has been given work in the Peace River area. We haven't received the details on his responsibilities as yet. Yahoo Mike!

This blog is a journal but lately has become a way to illustrate our travels to family and friends when we are away.
